As a business committed to supporting providers and practices throughout the National Capital Region, Zane Networks applauds the news by DC Mayor Bowser that two new hospitals will be constructed in Wards 1 and 8. The hospitals will include a new 136-bed hospital at St. Elizabeth’s East in Ward 8, operated by Universal Health Services in conjunction with George Washington University and George Washington Medical Faculty Associates (GWMFA); and a 225-bed Howard University Hospital on Georgia Avenue NW in Ward 1.

The Covid-19 outbreak has disproportionately affected black residents of DC, and has illustrated a stark contrast of how underlying medical conditions and unequal access to care can create very disparate health outcomes. As a company, we are heartened by the news of the city’s investment into a more equitable access to healthcare for all its residents and we look forward to supporting the city’s new hospitals as it provides expanded care throughout the city.
